Works with an ONGS change. Though, not sure if that's what you want.

<ONGSAutoPrompt>

<Notes>weapon</Notes>
<FirstAutopromptLevel>1</FirstAutopromptLevel>
<LastAutopromptLevel>19</LastAutopromptLevel>
<SubtitleName>autoprompt_weapon</SubtitleName>

</ONGSAutoPrompt>

Thought so ... So we should probably make it either an optional package (as users might want to decide on their own if they want the weapon notices in every level) or try to do this through Daodan. Don't know how much work this would be though in that case.

I suppose this should be fairly easy to do as XML patch mod?

I never used xmlTools but from what I've seen I don't think it's possible to replace a value at a specific location of those kind of array thingies. (There are a lot of <ONGSAutoPrompt><SubtitleName>.) - Script10k is aware of that problem. (We still have to make a ticket for it.)

So the easiest solution right now would be indeed a normal package.

I'm not sure, but I think Gumby intended the at-feet messages to mirror the pick-up messages which only occur in the first level or two (e.g. "Press [c.Q] to pick up HYPO SPRAY") as a sort of additional assistance for newbies.

But I agree that if a player wants to see that info at all, he probably always wants it on. I'm actually kind of opposed to the feature (how does Konoko magically know how much ammo the weapon has?), but I think that it should be acceptable to players who like it if this is an all-or-nothing option: if the message is turned on as a Daodan option, it's on for all levels, otherwise it's off for all levels.

I agree with Iritscen, I think it's only logical to maintain it in the first levels for newbies. Player already knows if a dropped weapon have ammo and it's name (not the actual ammo count, but that doesn't seem very logical).

You're probably right. Closing.

When gumby posted a screenshot of this before, the impression I got was it was to showcase that this feature will be available and personally i don't think he meant it for the early levels only. We can always ask him though.
To be more precise it only works in level 1 and 2. If it's meant to mirror the pick up tip for newbies it should at least work when you encounter a new weapon for the first time regardless of the level. Level 1 and 2 only have the black adder, and plasma rifle and tctf gun, it sounds like a wasted potential that it is able to show the info for the other weapons but will only get to show for these three.
To be honest it just feels like an incomplete mod or feature i recommend to either remove it from the core because it's pointless to have for only level 1 and 2 and it just feels like wasted potential or add it to daodan for all levels\weapons and keep it as core or to make it an optional pack for all weapons in all levels instead if using xml is possible ...just don't leave it as is because it really looks like an afterthought and an incomplete feature as currently is.

This is the screenshot gumby posted back then http://oni.bungie.org/community/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=21044#p21044
it showcases a scram cannon which appears in later levels and it also appears to be in the airport level (this level currently doesn't display the weapons' names) which is why i believe it wasn't mean to only be a tip for newbies but to apply to all levels and weapons, and I think something got lost along the way from when that screenshot was taken and that it should be fixed because it is a nice and useful gameplay feature. (logic was never Oni's strong point :P)

hope you reconsider the status, not sure if you saw the ticket change.

Yes, we can see all changes, even after closing. Stop spamming our inboxes :p

Personally I just think this was a silly idea that Gumby added simply because he could. I did argue that it made more sense to have the display appear in all places or in no places. But I'd rather see "no places", because Konoko does not quite have ESP :)

comment:12 Changed 11 years ago by Samer

I'm ok with no places too. All or nothing ... but not half a feature :p
so could it be disabled in the daodan and made an optional xml-oni mod as paradox pointed out. It doesn't need to be a patch since i don't think there are or there will be other mods in the near future that modify the ONGS.

Or use it for later levels in another storyline. Player undergoes a surgical operation. Augmented reality feature unlocked. lol
