AEI 2.0.6's launch hangs at update check

Description
As reported here. The title of this bug is highly speculative, but since the AEI supposedly is not getting far enough to generate a log, the problem was only reported after 2.07 came out, and one user fixed the problem by running the Updater manually, I'm guessing the problem has to do with whatever is currently getting returned for the AEI's check of its svn site since 2.07.

There should always be a log. The update check is done just the moment before the main GUI is created so there's already lots of stuff written to the log. I highly doubt this is really related to the update check.
