Okay, after various testing and research, we confirmed that this bug did indeed result from a combination of (1) OS X, (2) Java 7, and (3) special characters. I have implemented a slightly kludgy but effective solution into Run AE Installer, which is the AppleScript that launches the AEI and the AEI Updater.

    1 Oni's standard Mac installation folder is named "Oni ƒ". We encourage players to remove this, but there's always going to be some who don't know better, and simply copy the folder from the CD-ROM and try to work with it that way.
