#69 new defect

App name appears in Dock as "java" in OS X 10.9+ — at Version 5

Description (last modified by Iritscen)

This is a known bug in Java. I'm putting it here so we can track it and wait for the solution.

In 10.8 Mountain Lion and Java 6, the name appears properly. For some reason in 10.8 and Java 7, the name appears without spaces, but at least it still works. But in 10.9 Mavericks and 10.10 Yosemite, it becomes the name of the executable, "java".

.

The bug was documented by none other than Minecraft's creator here: https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8029440. So apparently now we just have to wait for someone to fix it.

Just a trivial note, the name "AEInstaller2" in the Dock becomes "AE Installer 2" in pre-10.9 OS X when using my new launcher script (see ticket #60). But the primary bug here of seeing "java" in the 10.9 Dock is unaffected.

This bug is still present in OS X 10.10 and Java 8. I see no evidence that it's being worked on.
